Five leading China-based companies have expressed interest in becoming off-takers and establishing local manufacturing facilities in the UEM Sunrise Berhad (UEM Sunrise) Renewable Energy (RE) Industrial Park in Gerbang Nusajaya, Johor. These companies will occupy a 40-acre site as part of a collaboration with UEM Group Berhad, ITRAMAS Corporation Sdn Bhd, and China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC).
The participating companies include China Machinery Engineering Wuxi Co Ltd (CMEC WUXI) and Wuxi Longmax Technology CO Ltd (Longmax), both of which are setting up local manufacturing operations and establishing solar module and combiner box production facilities within the park. Other international renewable energy manufacturers, such as Gotion, Hopewind, and Huasun, are also in discussions to invest in the park.
This development was announced during an Agreement Exchange Ceremony attended by Mohd Rafizi bin Ramli, Minister of Economy, and Nik Nazmi bin Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability, at the International Greentech & Eco Products Exhibition and COnference Malaysia (IGEM) 2024.
The RE Industrial Park is part of a one-gigawatt (GW) hybrid solar power plant project under Malaysia's National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), undertaken by UEM Group through its subsidiary, UEM Lestra Berhad.
CEO of UEM Lestra Harman Faiz Habib Muhamad said, "The RE Industrial Park in Gerbang Nusajaya is a pivotal component of our landmark 1GW solar hybrid power plant project under NETR. The interest from foreign companies and their forthcoming involvement in the project will strategically position Malaysia to drive substantial economic growth through foreign direct investment."
CEO of UEM Sunrise Sufian Abdullah stated, "Today's document exchange not only strengthens our shared vision for Malaysia's renewable energy future but also highlights UEM Sunrise's dedication to supporting our partners."
Group Managing Director of ITRAMAS Corporation Lee Choo Boo remarked, "The RE Industrial Park is a testament to Malaysia's commitment to renewable energy."
General Manager of CMEC WUXI Kathy Xu stated, “Driving innovation and powering the future with world-class expertise: Our collaboration brings together cutting-edge technology and deep industry expertise to create sustainable solutions.”
CEO of Longmax Henry Yang remarked, “Our partnership represents a strategic milestone in bringing advanced DC connection technology to Malaysia.”
