BATTERY ENERGY STORAGE SYSTEMS (BESS)

Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) play a critical role in supporting Malaysia’s energy transition, particularly in scaling up solar energy. As solar power is inherently intermittent, BESS enables stored energy to be dispatched when needed, ensuring a stable, reliable and balanced power supply. This firming capability is essential for grid stability, especially with rising demand from data centres and industrial users. BESS also supports peak load management, reduces curtailment and enhances the bankability of solar projects, making it a key enabler of Malaysia’s renewable energy goals under the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR). ITRAMAS provides Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) solutions across utility-scale, residential and commercial solar developments to ensure efficient energy management and long-term performance.

Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS)

CRESS is a renewable energy framework introduced by Malaysia’s Ministry of Energy Transition and Water Transformation (PETRA). It enables direct transactions between energy generators and corporate offtakers through open access to the national grid. This model allows businesses to meet ESG commitments by sourcing clean, reliable and competitively priced energy.

ITRAMAS plays an active role in the CRESS ecosystem by developing renewable energy and battery storage projects that deliver firm and dispatchable clean power to commercial and industrial users. We welcome partnerships with corporate offtakers committed to achieving their sustainability goals.

NATIONAL ENERGY TRANSITION ROADMAP (NETR) FLAGSHIP PROJECT

netr 2

ITRAMAS, in collaboration with Khazanah-UEM Group and international partners, is spearheading a pivotal 1.5 GWp hybrid solar farm integrated with a Renewable Energy Industrial Park. This initiative aligns with the Madani Economic Framework, the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), and the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP).

The NETR outlines 10 Flagship Catalyst Project initiatives based on 6 Energy Transition levers. One of the projects is the Integrated RE Zone championed by Khazanah Nasional Berhad and it will feature a joint development between ITRAMAS and UEM Lestra of a 1.5 GWp Hybrid Solar PV Power Plant Integrated with an RE Industrial Park, Johor, Malaysia.

The NETR Flagship Catalyst Project will involve the development of:

1,500 MWp of Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Power Plant

Covering an area of 4000 acres, this project is the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia. The project will generate 2,000,000 MWh clean energy per annum which can power up 600,000 households and reduce carbon emission 470,000 tons per year.

1,800 MWh of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS)

The Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) would be the first large-scale and the largest solar PV BESS in Malaysia. BESS makes the generated solar energy from the 1.5 GWp PV Plant more dispatchable and allows energy produced during daytime to be dispatched to the grid at hours beyond the typical solar plant generation hours.

RE Industrial Park in
Gerbang Nusajaya, Johor

The RE Industrial Park aims to attract players across the entire supply chain for the Renewable Energy (RE), Battery Energy Storange Systems (BESS) and Electric Vehicle (EV) industries, including solar modules, solar batteries & battery packs, key main & auxiliary materials including state-of-the-art string and micro inverters, mounting structure fabrications, system engineering products, and raw material processing.

NATIONAL ENERGY TRANSITION  ROADMAP (NETR) FLAGSHIP PROJECT

In 2023, the Malaysian government launched the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), targeting 70% Renewable Energy capacity by 2050 with over RM 600 billion in planned investments. Recognising solar as the country’s most abundant renewable resource, Malaysia is prioritising its development as a core pillar of the transition.
